Populaire Twitch-streamer Kai Cenat zou onder andere PlayStation 5-consoles weggeven in Union Square, New York. Er kwamen meer mensen dan verwacht op af, wat uitmondde in chaos.
Op Twitter liet Cenat, die als de huidige populairste streamer ter wereld wordt gezien, weten dat hij PlaStation 5-consoles, pc's en cadeaukaarten weg zou geven. Duizenden mensen kwamen op de oproep af. Er werd vuurwerk afgestoken en er werden auto's vernield.
Er moesten zo'n duizend politieagenten op afkomen om de menigte in bedwang te houden. Drie agenten raakten gewond en enkele tientallen mensen werden opgepakt. Ook Cenat zelf werd gearresteerd en hij wordt aangeklaagd voor minstens twee overtredingen, waaronder onwettige samenkomst en aanstichten van rellen. Het is niet bekend of hij überhaupt iets heeft weggegeven – daar zijn op moment van schrijven in ieder geval geen beelden van.

Kai Cenat and Fanum caused a riot in NYC's Union Square after promising to distribute free PS5s, PCs, gift cards, etc.
Hundreds of youngsters gathered, leading to fights.
